Matamoras to River Beach | 3-4 Hours
Distance: 6 miles
Time: Approximately 3-4 hours
Parking: River Beach
This section of the river is a calm water destination, with small sets of rapids and shelving, requiring a small amount of technical paddling. It is ideal for beginners and experienced river-goers, who enjoy paddling the beauty of the Middle Delaware through brief riffles separated by short pools. Below Matamoras, the river corridor starts to change as it turns and widens, on this trip you will pass by historic towns and multiple islands, go under two bridges and notice stunning scenic vistas. Paddle through gorgeous scenery and observe High Point Monument, the highest elevation in New Jersey. The second bridge you will go under marks the point where the boundaries for the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania meet. It is important to stay to the right of the islands in this section. Paddlers of all skill levels appreciate the Middle Delaware’s beauty, wildlife sightings and high water quality. See bald eagles, osprey and the occasional whitetail deer. This is a short, novice level trip that requires some technical paddling.
